Vent2Me is my passion. I started it, because I wanted to see businesses succeed with what they do best. I decided to start my business after I saw a cafe open only to shut down six months later. I remember walking past it every day on my way to work, I knew straight away that it wasn’t going to succeed. This gutted me because it was obvious the business owners tried everything to get their business off the ground and I even went in to buy coffee (even though I don’t drink it) to try to help them from time to time. Unfortunately I wasn’t ready to help them, so I decided to do something about it. The next time I saw a business in need, I was ready and able to help. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a business transform into a successful and profitable enterprise. To know, I played a role in making that happen is so exciting.
My brother is six years older than me so when he started running a part-time business I decided I wanted to run one too! My first job was pet sitting for owners whilst their pets were away. This taught me a lot about responsibility and meeting the client needs. It also taught me about segmenting target markets. My first job was for Swinburne University of Technology, I love education and the ability it has to transform lives. I stayed in the education industry for four years, before I explored the corporate advertising sector, then I went back to the education industry then back to corporate, all whilst trying to juggle a start-up business!
I live and breathe marketing. Why I started Vent2Me was because I wanted to leave my mark on the world. I know some people don’t hold marketing in high esteem. but to me marketing is not only about creating something that was just once an idea – it’s about being able to shape the world and make it the place you want it to be. I love being able to provide advice to clients on a range of marketing activities that suit their budget and marketing goals. I know how challenging it can be when running a business and I am extremely good at getting businesses off the ground.
A social life and financial stability. I’m in the fortunate situation that with 16 clients and growing I’m starting to generate a profit (a very small one). I’ve struggled with not being paid on a regular basis and I realised very early on that I needed a bookkeeper to assist in the handling of my finances. I learnt this the hard way when I was trying to pay for groceries at a supermarket and all my cards declined. Processing invoices was an important aspect of running a successful business and thankfully my father Robert is a CPA and is helping me tackle this aspect. I’ve also had to sacrifice some aspects of my social life, I’ve lost some friends along the way but gained new friends too. Running a business can be a lonely adventure but thankfully I have an amazing support base to help guide me.
My proudest achievement in business was getting my first client on the books. That feeling of having a client love your work is mind blowing. I still get the same rush and thrill of excitement every time I get a new client or get lovely feedback from a client. Just recently I helped a client out with an urgent task and she was so happy she cried with happiness. How can that not make you feel great? In life my greatest achievement was marrying my best friend and soul mate Jon Taine in January 2014. I still can’t believe I’m married and I’m enjoying every aspect of this new adventure!
The Actors Process, a new online chat show that allows viewers to go behind the curtain of the acting industry. The show is a world first and features some of the top industry experts including Hollywood Acting Coaches Howard Fine and Anthony Meindl. I was responsible for the creative direction, design and development of the website, as well as the social media and public relations strategy.
To understand its okay not to be in control. I always thought I had to control every situation. I was the girl who when she went away on holidays had a spreadsheet outlining what activities I wanted to do each day. As I’ve got older I’ve learnt to lessen my control. I’m now much more open to living in the moment and so much happier as a result!
Listen to your gut instinct and don’t be afraid to believe in yourself. If I didn’t have this self belief there would be no way I would have undertaken the career path that I have.
I’d love to expand interstate and have staff who will look after particular industries on my behalf. Currently, I’m managing clients and the strategic direction of the business. I would love to discover someone who can assist in managing clients so I can continue to grow Vent2Me. I currently have three staff underneath me but I’m definitely keen to expand further. I’d love to have some clients in Sydney or Brisbane and then grow from there.
